The Lee Health Trauma Center has served Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties for 31 years. Our team of trauma-certified physicians, surgeons and support staff, as well as specialists and subspecialists, are on call, ready to save lives every hour of every day. The Trauma Center also offers support groups, a mentor program to help patients through the recovery process, and injury prevention programs and community outreach.
In honor of Trauma Awareness Month, I invite you to read about one of our patients who survived a catastrophic boating accident. Visit www.tinyurl.com/TraumaMonth to read the HealthyNews® Blog entitled “A Near-Death Boating Accident Changed Her Life, But Not Her.”
Along with providing lifesaving care for the five-county region, in 2025, our experts at the Trauma Center began hosting an annual Advanced Trauma Life Support® (ATLS®) Student Course.
Earlier this year, in January, the Trauma Center was approved by the State Committee on Trauma Chair Peter Pappas, M.D., FACS, as a site for the ATLS course. ATLS is a standardized, internationally recognized training program developed by the American College of Surgeons that trains doctors and other healthcare professionals how to assess and manage multiple injured patients—whether they regularly treat patients with traumatic injuries or not. The Trauma Center hosted its inaugural ATLS two-day course in April.
The Trauma Center is an important and valuable part of our health system and the level of care we can provide our community 24/7/365. The expertise and compassion of our Trauma Center team are evident in the care they provide for our patients and the opportunity to train others through the ATLS course. Thank you to the Trauma Center team for everything they do every day and night to serve Southwest Florida.
